Church and Mosque Christ church This Christ church in Kanchipuram was built during the Britishers rule in India. This church was built exactly by Nuclear, a Britisher in the year 1921. The structure of the construction was exactly Scottish with the arches and pillars resembling the Scottish construction. Saint Thomas Mount One among the 12 disciples of Jesus Christ, St. Thomas preached Christ unity when he came here to India and settled in a hillock, south of Chennai. He carved a stone-cross of his own and prayed before it everyday. During the time of prayer, St. Thomas was stabbed by the killers commanded by King Raja Mahadeva. Till his death St. Thomas continued praying as his blood, oozed out and spread on the stone cross. It is said that the blood stain did not go off for centuries. A church was built there and it holds the painting of Holy Mother and Infant Jesus. It is said that the two paintings were painted by St. Thomas himself during the 1st century A.D. Masjids The 450 years old Mosque was built by the then Nawab of Arcot near the Ekambareswarar Temple. Another Mosque is located near the Vaikunta perumal Temple. Both the mosque and the temple share the same tank. The Muslims get themselves involved in the Brahmotsavam festival held in the Varadharaja temple.
